Growing up, I loved learning about various cultures and how they intertwined with different aspects in life. My interest was initially sparked during my first visit to the World Showcase at Disney World’s Epcot. While it was not fully accurate to the cultures it represented, I enjoyed the opportunity it gave me to try to understand a large variety of cultures simultaneously.
As I grew older, my interest in cultures persisted. Reading countless books and articles about various cultures written by publishers such as National Geographic, became a favorite pastime for me. Soon, I was spending hours reading books and watching videos about anything culture related. Consequently, I became so engrossed in cultures and the stories that they tell that it became the main passion in my life.
Slowly, I started travelling to states outside of my own, for instance, New Mexico and California, exploring America’s rich and diverse cultures. I have had opportunities to leave the U.S. and travel to England, France, and Canada to experience some aspects of life there.
After graduating high school, I enrolled as a Communications Major at Stockton University. My Freshman schedule was filled with classes based on the diversity of life experiences and cultures, as well as how to communicate these experiences using film. I spent my free time attending cultural events on campus like Lunar New Year, Chanukah, and Kwanzaa celebrations.
Eventually, this passion grew so large that I knew that I wanted my future to be about culture. This is when I decided to change my major from Communications to Anthropology, the scientific study of cultures and try to learn as much as I can about culture.
I recently attended CIFAS (private foundation of Columbia University) 2020 Summer School in Ethnographic Methods to further my education in Anthropology. There I learned all about ethnographic research and how it relates to the study of Anthropology.
Now, I have created Culture Lizard. It’s a combination of my academic and travel experiences through the years. In addition, it displays my love for learning about Earth’s cultures, its stories, and the lessons that they teach.
In blog form, of course.
Overall, I hope that my website shares my curiosity about cultures with you. Furthermore, I hope that it helps you become kinder, wiser, and appreciate life more in general.
My goal is to share my curiosity and love of everything culture with you. Furthermore, I hope that it makes you more aware of the world around you and in the end wiser, kinder, and more appreciative of life and all of its differences in general.
